EAST ONGERUP SCHOOL

The East Ongerup School was opened before the school in the town of Ongerup as there were more children on farms than in the township. The first building originally came from the goldfield and was made of corrugated iron with a domed shaped roof, unlined and a wooden floor.   It contained both the school and teachers quarters. It opened on 7th September 1914 with an enrollment of 5 boys and 8 girls.

This school closed for many years and then it was decided to erect another school on the same site in 1944. The second school was made of weatherboard and asbestos with a verandah partly enclosed at one end.
